Foot health is something that concerns everyone in your family who has feet. Now, it might not seem as though activities that benefit feet would provide an opportunity to get the whole family together for some good times, but we have several ideas that prove otherwise. There are some fun family activities in the greater Sacramento, CA community that will contribute in various ways to your family’s collective foot health:
- Explore the city with a walking tour. Did you know that Sacramento Heritage, Inc. conducts free walking tours to show off our architectural heritage? Well, if you didn’t, you do now! These tours are not only a great way to learn about and appreciate the uniqueness of our community, but they will also give your feet a great workout. Walking is a low-impact activity that keeps muscles strong, burns calories, and promotes healthy circulation. All of those contribute to healthy feet!
- Shop local. Our area boasts some incredible farmers’ markets, so bring the family to the markets at Fremont Park, Cesar Chavez Plaza, Capitol Mall, or Midtown to pick up fresh fruits and veggies. This supports not only our local economy but also the health of your feet! Eating a diet rich in produce, whole grains, lean meats, and low-fat dairy products is essential for strong bones and muscles in the lower body.
- Do a little dance. The Sacramento Music Festival is on tap this weekend (May 27-30), and this family-friendly event will give the chance for everyone to “shake your groove thing” or “cut a rug.” Dancing is fun, of course, but it can also burn off a ton of calories and give you a cardiovascular workout.
- Root, root, root for the River Cats. Your feet are overworked and need a little downtime, so why not take the family to Raley Field and watch our local Triple-A team tear it up on the diamond? Catching a game will give your feet a chance to rest, plus you might see future all-stars in early action. Even better? Minor league games are easy on the pocketbook and geared towards family entertainment. Your family, and your feet, will thank you!
