Fall Fail: Letting Fungal Nails Go

Comments (0)

Carefree summer days may be over, but that doesn’t mean you should forget about how your bare toes look. After all, sandals are practically our “state shoe,” so pedicures are a year-round thing. Sure, you might pull on some fall boots soon, but even then, if you have toenail fungus, hiding the problem with polish or footwear and forgetting about it is only going to make it worse. Treatment for toenail fungus

Before you paint on some nail color and call it good, or tuck your toes inside socks and shoes and move on, consider this: that polish is trapping moisture underneath it, and boots tend to get sweaty inside. Fungi thrive in such damp environments, so covering up the problem actually adds to it.

In addition, while fungal toenails are not-so-attractive, how they look is not the only issue of concern. Fungal infections need to be treated, otherwise they can spread and eventually cause pain and start to smell! So, put down that polish, kick off those boots and come see us to start fungal nail laser treatment today. It’s the fastest way to rid yourself of that nasty fungi so toenails stay pretty and problem-free.

Topical medications are often ineffective or take a long time before yielding results. That’s because the medicine needs to travel through the thickened, damaged nail to reach the source of the problem. Laser treatment, on the other hand, penetrates the nail in seconds, zapping the fungus beneath it where it’s taken hold. Stronger, oral medications can sometimes help, but even more so when coupled with fungal nail laser therapy.

If you have toenail fungus, don’t be tempted to hide it – treat it so it doesn’t get worse and get in the way of having fun. Call (916) 961-3434 to set up an appointment at our Carmichael, CA office. We’ll keep your toenails looking and feeling good, through the fall and beyond!
