Dry skin on your feet

Whether you’re heading for the slopes or enjoying some one-on-one time with your cozy couch, itchy, flaky, dry skin on your feet can put a damper on your day!

This is the time of year to remind yourself that just because feet are hiding away in socks, shoes, and ski boots, doesn’t mean you should take on the mantra “out of sight, out of mind!” Dry inside air and the colder air outside can make skin feel parched, and worse, start to crack. Also known as fissures, deep cracks that develop on your heels due to dryness can be painful, bleed, and open the door for infection; it’s especially dangerous for ! Luckily, there are some DIY solutions for dry skin that will make your feet feel supple and your day go smoothly!

Moisturizing is key and best done after you bathe when your skin absorbs it best. You don’t have to stick with lotions and creams, however. Try whipping up a foot scrub using olive oil, brown sugar, and honey – it exfoliates and moisturizes at the same time!

You can also create a soothing foot soak with milk and honey or oatmeal and afterward, smear on some yogurt –it’s like a satisfying breakfast buffet for your feet!

Why not make a moisturizing mask while you’re at it? Only this one is for your feet, not your face! Mash an avocado and slather it on, letting it work its magic for 15 minutes before rinsing.

Other dry skin busters you can try at home include using a humidifier, opting for unscented or sensitive skin cleansing products, limiting bath time, and going with warm water instead of hot. You can also cover feet with petroleum jelly then slip on socks before bed – a great overnight trick for fabulously smooth skin.
